Choosing God's Way—Even When It’s Hard
Trusting God Even When It Doesn’t Make Sense
“And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!”
— Philippians 2:8 (NIV)
🌿 Obedience Is Beautiful—But It's Not Always Easy
Obedience sounds noble in theory. But when God asks you to walk away from something you love, forgive someone who hurt you deeply, wait longer than you expected, or sacrifice something you value—it suddenly feels like surrender is too high a price.
We like the idea of saying “yes” to God—until that yes costs us something. Maybe even everything.
But here’s the thing: obedience is never about ease. It’s about trust. It’s trusting that God’s plan is better than our comfort. It’s choosing His way even when we don’t understand the why behind it.
🔥 The Cost of Obedience Isn’t Greater Than Its Reward
Think of Noah. He built an ark in the middle of dry land before anyone had even seen rain. Think of Abraham, who was told to leave everything familiar for a promise he couldn’t yet see. Think of Mary, a teenage girl asked to carry the Son of God, risking her reputation, her comfort, and her plans.
Obedience will often make you look foolish before it reveals God’s faithfulness.
But the cost of obedience will never outweigh the reward of God’s presence, provision, and peace. In John 14:23, Jesus says, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.”
When you obey God, you’re not just doing the right thing—you’re welcoming the King into your situation.
🌊 Obedience Requires Letting Go
Obedience often means giving up our desire to know the outcome. It’s choosing to follow God step by step without a full map. And that’s hard.
But faith was never about having the full picture. Faith is about walking forward anyway, believing that the One leading you knows where He’s going.
Isaiah 1:19 says, “If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.” God’s blessings are tied to our willingness to trust Him—even in the tension.
🕊️ Obedience Isn’t Just a Moment. It’s a Lifestyle.
Saying yes to God once isn’t enough. Obedience is a daily surrender. A daily dying to our own way. A daily choosing to say, “Not my will, but Yours.”
Jesus modeled this for us perfectly in Luke 22:42, when He prayed in the garden, “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but Yours be done.”
That prayer changed everything.
Your obedience may not feel glamorous. It may happen in silence. It may go unseen by others. But it will never go unnoticed by God.
🙏 A Prayer for Obedience
Father, give me the courage to obey You even when it costs me. Even when I’m afraid. Even when I don’t understand. Help me to trust that Your ways are higher, Your plans are better, and Your timing is perfect. Soften my heart to say yes before I see the outcome. Teach me to walk in surrender, and let my obedience bring You glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
